Boats and Boating in the Adirondacks

An exhibition featuring freshwater boats for work and play. Discover the museum's extensive collection of Adirondack guideboats and the full-scale interior of a boat builder's shop. The resident boat builder is at work during July and August.

Living with Wilderness
& the Lynn Boillot Art Galleries

Living With Wilderness provides an introduction to Adirondack history from the 1500s to the close of the 20th century. Includes the Photobelt — a unique display of historic photographs from the museum's collection as well as a large interactive map of the Adirondack Park.

The Lynn Boillot Art Galleries offer special exhibits devoted to the fine and decorative arts.

Log Hotel: Hotels, Camps and Adirondack Clubs

Built in 1878, this is an original structure from Merwin's Blue Mountain House, a summer resort located on the present site of the museum.

Rustic Privy

Adirondack Artist's Cottage

Painter Gustave Wiegand's cottage and studio from 1900-1920. The interior is outfitted with rustic furniture.

Roads and Rails:
Everyday Life in the Age of Horses

Horse-drawn vehicles from farm wagons to Concord coaches, a luxurious private railroad car, and vintage autos illustrate early transportation in the Adirondacks. The exhibit also includes a complete blacksmith's shop, a peddler's wagon and a gallery devoted to farming. Alternative location for the film The Adirondacks: The Lives and Times of an American Wilderness.

Lake View Deck

Enjoy magnificent views of Blue Mountain Lake from a height of more than 200 feet.

Sunset Cottage

A rustic cottage built for Camp Cedars at Forked Lake; an outstanding example of mosaic twig work.

Rustic Gazebo

A replica of an original summerhouse found on the grounds of Merwin's Blue Mountain House.

Reising Schoolhouse

A one-room schoolhouse built in 1907 and used in Herkimer County until 1945. The schoolhouse is now a hands-on family activity center.

Buck Lake Club Camp

A unique log hunting camp built circa 1962.

Adirondack History Gallery

The Rustic Revival showcases the work of six regional rustic makers. See unique contemporary pieces and examples from twenty years ago. Includes hands-on rustic games and activities to challenge and delight.

Woods and Waters: Outdoor Recreation in the Adirondacks

Nineteenth century tourism, camping, surveying, mountaineering, fishing, trapping, and hunting, and Adirondack wildlife are all featured. The exhibit also includes stories of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and the camp of hermit Noah John Rondeau.

Built in the early 1900s, the cottage displays important examples of Adirondack rustic furniture and accessories.

Logging camp life, tools and machinery, products and loggers' traditions tell the story of one of the Adirondack region's most important industries.

Whiteface Mountain Fire Tower

Climb the tower for a great view of the museum grounds and Blue Mountain Lake.

The Great Outdoors:
Adirondack Play and Adventure

Explore fishing, camping, climbing and kayaking in this hands-on exhibit specially designed for families with young children.

Marion River Carry Pavilion

The steamboat Osprey, the H.K. Porter locomotive with passenger car, and a diorama interpret turn-of-the-century steam and rail transportation systems in the Adirondacks.

Visitor Center

Welcome to the Adirondack Museum! In the Visitor Center you will find: Admissions; the Water Witch — an Idem-class racing sloop built in 1900; the Membership Desk; International Paper Community Gallery (special exhibits); the Museum Store — offering regional crafts, books, gifts, and a special "kids corner."

Museum Store

Auditorium

A space for lectures, musical presentations, and films. The award-winning film The Adirondacks: The Lives and Times of an American Wilderness is shown continuously throughout the day. The film is also shown in the exhibit Roads and Rails: Everyday Life in the Age of Horses, a fully accessible space.

Lake View Café

Enjoy breathtaking views of Blue Mountain Lake. The café menu offers fresh salads, soups, chili, hot entrees, sandwiches, desserts, and beverages.
